Last year in the winter when I went to Maui with my mom I was introduced to a grouping of seasonings named Bellalicious. They are made by a friend of my mother’s on Maui. Pat loved the seasonings and I remember one of the bottles was a little melted she had mentioned replacing it.
When we went to clean up her place last year after her passing my sister and I spent days putting them in little glass jars and transferring the labels. It was so fun because we were able to find all the matching bottles in her wild and wonderful home. Two bottles here…. One in another room…. One in her office. After the week we were able to find a whole set and transfer them all.
It was a fun and cathartic practice. While we were transferring them I had so much fun using the spice mixes. I ended up buying a set of spices for both of us to have at our homes. The Mexican seasoning was the one I have ended up using the most often so far. I decided to try to make my own with organic ingredients from our local health food store. I added a few local ingredients, my favorite salt and Pluck to increase the dense nutrient profile.

I think it turned out really well. Let me know what you think.
Barefoot and Well Mexican Spice Mix
4T chili powder
5 T cumin
4 1/2 T dried spring onions (mine are from Cromwells)
2 1/2 T paprika
1 1/2 T pepper
2 1/2 T Redmond Real salt
2 T Pluck (I was introduced to this seasoning at Polyface farm a few years ago. It is a delicious, easy and great way to get all your essential nutrients without having to think about how to eat organ meats regularly.)
2 tsp coriander
2 tsp oregano
1 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
I dehydrated some of my favorite spring onions to bring that energy and flavor into the rest of the year. Blend all ingredients in a bowl and store in an airtight container. Use in anything you like. So far I’ve used to season meat, in guac, in rice, beans and in my homemade salsa.
Enjoy,
Love, C
