Organic and beyond have been a way of life for me in the garden and in health for a long time. The joy of good compost with lots worms and moist nutrients really make me happy. I find that meditative quiet place in the garden that I also find on the beach, under an umbrella or on my yoga mat just about anywhere. These are the places that bring me back to center and make me a better person, so that I may go out in the world and make it just a little bit better than I found it.
The garden is a special place that for me has many correlations between health and balance and overall consciousness. The way that someone feeds and treats their garden is usually how they feed and nurture their family. If they are just looking for the front of their house to ‘look good’ this is usually the person that on the outside is very ‘polished’ but if I ask some questions about how ‘healthy’ they really are, the truth is almost scary. These people eat processed foods (Miracle Grow) wear all the right clothes (pretty little plants)They just drop garbage (because someone else will pick it up) and sneak out back for a smoke (You know who you are…) These habits seem just fine right now, but the cosmic debt on your health, vitality and environment is being kept, and not by me.
When you look at your garden or lack of a garden is it well nourished? Are all of the plants in the front yard pretty,; but the ones out back either non-existant or unhealthy? Are you adding toxic substances just because you think that no one is looking? (This is just silly, because ultimately it is all about you!)
I started this note to share my favorite fertilizer recipes with you and got a bit sidetracked… The thing about feeding the garden organically that is so dear to me is…. My family is going to run barefoot in the grass, they are going to eat the food that is produced in it, the runoff from my grass and yard is going to the Chesapeake Bay, and ultimately the Atlantic Ocean. We are not only going to swim in it but it is going to produce food for us to eat. And not only that, my neighbors and friends are involved in this cosmic debt. And so are yours! So start making an effort to do it right. And if you have questions ask someone to help you.
