Vital Salad

My love of Eating Well constantly has me thinking……. “How can I feed myself and my family better?”

In Defense of Food , Michael Pollan says, “Eat food , not too much, mostly plants .’

Make your food choices wholesome.

Find good food wherever you are. We used Yelp.com/ Iphone app to locate good wholesome food while we were on vacation.

I spent some time this past month thinking about how many people were making drastic changes in their diets. All in the name of ‘New Year’s resolutions’. These drastic changes for some, may help to save their lives. I do believe that drastic measures are necessary for most people in our society. But for many, these changes in nourishment may make people feel as if they are  missing out on foods that they love. Yes…. LOVE!!!  (Red dye # 47 is NOT love!!!!)

Food is a basic need, calories are necessary to continue to run our human machine. It is the choice of the QUALITY of the calories, where most people start to have problems. When we are raised, the foods that we are given as a child, are usually the foods that we crave for nourishment and love as adults. Yes, the foods that you are sharing with your children are the foods that they will continue to eat throughout their lives. These are the foods that they will remember from their childhood as LOVE.

  • So how do you think you are doing?
  • Do you think that you may want to add some high QUALITY foods into your and their diet?
  • Or do you want them to try to unlearn poor food choices later in life, like you are?

When you try to make a change in your diet, the most lasting and profound changes are made slowly. Instead of taking bad stuff out of your diet, add good things (like organic produce) into your diet. This creates a nutrient dense substitute. Therefore your body may not crave the other not so good food-like substances.

Or try to drink a large glass of pure water. Sometimes your hunger cues are really your body telling you that it is thirsty.

Back to my quest to try to NOURISH my family BETTER. I like to think that we have an amazing diet. But my thoughts were how to do BETTER. So I decided to take one of the days of the week, and make it a primarily RAW DAY!!! Yummy…… So Thursdays are our raw day.I have been having a lot of fun with this one.  And my favorite kitchen gadget for raw Thursdays is my Spiralizer. I would like to share a salad that I had down in Key West, Florida at a wonderful whole food cafe called Help Yourself. This is my rendition. ENJOY!!!

Vital Spiral Salad

Vital Salad- Dr. C Style

  • 2-3 Spiral cut zucchini
  • 2 carrots peeled like long linguine noodles
  • 1 cucumber seeded, peeled & chopped
  • 1 tree of broccoli chopped, include the soft part of the stem
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • They added onions…. I took them out!…. & played with them!
  • (Toss all of the veggies together then add the dressing. Serve immediately with curry cashews.)

Dressing for the veggies

  • Olive oil- 1/4 (ish) C.
  • soy sauce 1-2 tsp (ish)
  • toasted sesame oil – just a few dashes
  • fresh grated ginger root
  • and just a bit of honey
  • (Mix together with a whisk. Season to your taste. Wherever I say, “ish” it means  that I don’t measure, but guess.)

Curry Cashews

  • butter 2 Tbs.
  • Curry powder- 4 tsp.
  • Himalayan salt- 1 tsp.
  • Cayenne pepper- 1/4 tsp.
  • Cashews- 2 c. roasted
  • scant 1/4 tsp. coconut sugar
  • (Melt and mix until you smell the aromatics. Add nuts, cover with the spice butter. Place in preheated 350′ oven on a flat cookie sheet for 10 min. …….cool.)

I don't much like raw onions, but they do have a purpose..... OM!!!

Breathe Deeply….

Today is one of those beautiful winter days that nature has gifted us with warmth. I opened the door this morning and the air is warm, sweet and moist. So what did I do? I ran around my house and opened all of the windows and doors to let that sweet, fresh salty air into my  morning experience.

When is the last time that you opened your windows? When is the last time that you focused on your breath? I have been incorporating breathing techniques into my daily yoga practice. And do you know what I have found? I have a wellspring of new found energy and expansion.

The simple technique of breathing in to the count of 3 & breathing out to the count of 5. Can bring your mind and body from a stressed state to a calm and more balanced state in just 10-20 conscious breaths. Try it, I think that you will like it. What a great way to deal with anything that may trip your stress meter.

Stress is the leading cause of most of the health problems that people face. Whether it is PHYSICAL,CHEMICAL, or EMOTIONAL STRESS you have the power to change how you respond to your stressors. A clear and healthy Nervous System helps your body adapt to your stressors perfectly. Get adjusted & take back control of your perfect body.

Dream Big……. Really Big!!!

O.K. So, I have always been a fantastic conscious manifestor. Not only have I always had big dreams and visions of my life, but I also have worked very hard to get where I am today. I am so absolutely blessed to have parents that have always let me know that I can achieve anything that I want ….. As long as I work hard at it.
I constantly strive to & LOVE to learn new things. Not only gaining knowledge and skills that improve my life tremendously, but also sharing that knowledge and skill with everyone that I meet. Improving people’s lives is something that I am passionate about. I make my quality of life so much more rich and colorful when I serve, that sometimes the win-win of it all just makes me a little giddy.
Over the past weekend Dr. Mark and I experienced one of the most profound shifts of my life! We always want to grow and help our patients so when we heard that there was a program called LifeBook that could help us with our conscious manifestation of our visions of growth and knowledge we did not hesitate for a moment. This program has set forth a tsunami of energy that even I have a hard time putting into words.

In our practices our patients may notice some interesting and comforting shifts. And in every other aspect of my vibratory expansion I am inspired and consciously directed like never before!

Ask yourself What are your beliefs on ANYTHING ( Health, Love, Career,….. What is it that you see as your perfect VISION or your GOALS? …… WHY? Vitality is BRILLIANT

Flamingos….. It is crazy where inspiration comes from sometimes! This information has been bouncing around in my head for a few days. Did you know that the bright color of flamingos comes from their diet? It is due to aqueous bacteria and beta-carotene obtained from their food supply. If flamingos do not have the proper nutrients in their diet their feathers become pale and colorless.
This is where the bouncing around gets sort of fun!
When humans do not have the proper nutrients, do you know what happens?… They become pale and colorless!!! If you nourish your thoughts, eat pure foods, move your body, and have quality nourishing relationships. Do you know what happens? You shine & your spirit becomes more brilliant!

Vitality is BRILLIANT! It is absolutely necessary to nourish your body with conscious intention!!!!! This means…

  1. You are what you Think
  2. You are what you Eat
  3. You are how you Move
  4. You are Who you spend the most time with. (You are the sum of the 5 people that you spend the most time with. Think about this!)

When you look at yourself in the mirror do you think “Woooooo Hoooooo!”? Or do you say “I know that I can shine more brightly!” Is your color brilliant or dull? What would you like to see? What are you willing to do to manifest your VISION?
I see people who come into our offices make fantastic transformations. It is as if their soul remembers its Purpose. The purpose of LIFE is to shine! When the Nervous System is clear, the human spirit is aligned with its PURPOSE.
You were placed on this planet to manifest your glory. When you find your brilliant colors share them with the world. This makes our planet a better and more colorful place.

Vitalistic or Mechanistic…. You Choose!!!

I was thinking about Chiropractic Care and Cold Laser Healing the other day and the most interesting compare and contrast thoughts kept running through my head. Yes, you may think it’s funny that these are the pervading thoughts in my head, but I just love this stuff!!!

I was thinking about VITALISTIC Healing Principles as opposed to MECHANISTIC Healing Principles.

If you look at the definition of VITALISM-(‘the theory that the origin and phenomena of life are dependent on a force (GOD) or principle distinct from purely chemical or physical forces’) the words INNATE INTELLIGENCE comes to mind.

If you look at the definition of MECHANISM-(‘ The doctrine that all natural phenomena, including life and thought, allow mechanical explanation by physics and chemistry.’) A bit linear and flat world, don’t you think?

Most medical practice and some Chiropractors approach the body and health care from a mechanistic standpoint. As the state of our HealthCare?!?! in the U.S. demonstrates this mechanistic approach is not quite cutting it. (Pun was intended!)

The Colorful Way Of The Peaceful Health Warrior…

As a peaceful health warrior I am always trying to guide others along the path of better and more vital living. I was fortunately raised in an environment that engrained knowledge of whole living from a very young age. When I was growing up however others thought that we were odd. Eating whole food and keeping our bodies in proper alignment, so that we did not have to go to the fear based-pain management side of quasi health care seemed strange to others. This upbringing has served me in my deep core knowledge of where true health comes from. Are you wondering where?
INSIDE
That is right ladies and gentlemen every expression of every cell, breath, movement, heart beat, eye blink,( I could go on for a long time.) all happens from the inside out.
What I witness in our society is that many, if not most people approach their bodies from the outside in.
To make themselves beautiful, they slather on the makeup instead of eating fabulous colorful food that would create beauty from the inside out.
To take away pain or organ dysfunction, they medicate themselves senseless instead of finding and correcting the cause of their problem. (Subluxations)
To lose weight, they either starve themselves or cut off part of their stomach, instead of eating less and exercising more.
To take away stress they again drug themselves senseless, which in turn never lets them adapt to their stressors. Adaptation is the key to longevity.
When you keep your spine in proper alignment the expression of perfect health and vitality is effortless. Your perfect electrical system (Nervous System) is in constant communication with every cell in your body, regulating everything from growing a child to blinking your eyes. If you have an interference in this electrical system do you think your body works BETTER?….. or WORSE?

I initially writing this because I wanted to share a big win on my love of colorful food. You see how I digress into my love of VITALITY THROUGH CLARITY. I will still share my colorful win.
For years I have been trying to convince my sweet Canadian better half how amazing beets are. Well he always said that they taste like ‘dirt’. I must LOVE dirt because I just can’t get enough beets. My sheer determination has paid off. The other night I made spiralized beet salad and he begrudgingly tried it….. and he liked it!!!!! And he ate more!!!! I WIN!!! My sweet victory is a bit silly to most but to share my love of beets just makes me happy!

Spirialized Beet Salad

2-3 Beautiful Beets- Spirialized
4-6 Dinosaur Kale julianed
1/2 tsp. Shallot finely minced
1/4 c. Parsley- Flat leaf, chopped (I add parsley to everything.)
Rice wine vinegar 2(ish) tsp.
Olive oil 3-4(ish) tsp.
Grainy mustard 1(ish) tsp.
Raw honey (just a bit)

Mix the condiments together then add the colorful veggies….. ENJOY!!!

Remember That You Are Perfection!

As a doctor of Chiropractic and health educator, one of the most horrifying things that I encounter in my practice, is the amount of drugs that people are on. When a patient tells me that they are on 5-10 medications daily or weekly, I just want to cry. Often these people are unfazed by this. The reason that this affects me so strongly is that I KNOW without a doubt that they were placed on this perfect planet with all the capacity, that they will ever need, to heal and self regulate their own bodies. Somehow between birth and where they are right at that moment they have been brainwashed to think that they have no possible hope in the world of ever LIVING without pharmaceutical crap!

Gag me!!!

Please remember that the great wisdom that put you on this fine planet did it with the foresight of ‘ Self-Healing’. Get Adjusted and know that with clear perfect nerve messages your body is capable of ANYTHING!!!

Have You Brushed your Spine Today?

So we all know that we need to brush our teeth to keep them. But how many of you think about regular hygiene of your spine? And how long do you want to keep it?  In my practice I so often see people who have “taken care of” their external appearance to the extreme (i.e.~ They work out, do yoga, have implants, get Botox and butt fat shot into their face, have pretty clothes, drive nice cars, blah…. blah…. blah…) and have basically ignored the most important piece of being beautiful and whole!

Have you taken a moment to consider the health and vitality of your spine and the fantastic system that is housed in your spine (Nervous System)?

We all know that the brain controls the body… Right?

And we all know that the messages that control the body travel down the spine… Right?

So now that  we have clarity on these points how do you think your beautiful body works if there is a message that is either stopped or not clear? ~SUBLUXATION

SPINAL HYGIENE For Your Body!

  • LIVE WELL~To have proper hygiene of your spine it is very important that you first and foremost have proper alignment. Proper alignment allows for proper motion. Find a great Chiropractor and get your spine lined up!
  • MOVE WELL~Movement is the next key to proper spinal hygiene. Get outside and move your body… Sweat, Breathe, Smile, Wiggle.
  • EAT WELL~Nutrients are so important your beautiful body! Eat WHOLE, CLEAN~(no pesticides), REAL~(not processed),FOOD!!!
  • SLEEP WELL~Sleep is necessary for proper spinal hygiene. When you sleep all of the nutrients and moisture revitalize your spine and nervous system. Please get a great bed and sleep 6-10 hours a day.
  • THINK WELL~ What the mind conceives the body believes. What do you program your cells with? I spend a lot of time thinking nice thoughts to myself, you should try it!
  • LOVE WELL~ Express love  with every fiber of your being, this is paramount to the human experience!
